Practical Test & Tag Training

Learn how to safely inspect, test and tag portable electrical equipment with VDB Training.

This course provides participants with the knowledge and practical skills to conduct in-service safety testing of electrical equipment, including appliances, cords, plugs and cord-connected equipment, in accordance with AS/NZS 3760 and relevant workplace safety requirements.

Workplace training is available, making this a practical option for businesses and groups looking to train employees in their workplace.

What You Will Learn:

During the course, you will learn how to:

  • Visually inspect electrical equipment for damage and hazards.

  • Identify electrical and workplace hazards.

  • Apply safe working practices and risk controls.

  • Safely test portable electrical equipment using appropriate test equipment.

  • Test electrical cords and cord-connected equipment.

  • Interpret test results.

  • Complete testing records and equipment tags.

  • Apply testing tags correctly.

  • Follow the requirements of AS/NZS 3760.

  • Demonstrate safe methods of removing an electric shock victim from a live electrical situation.

Who Is This Course For?

This course is suitable for individuals who require the knowledge and skills to conduct in-service safety testing of electrical cord-connected equipment as part of their workplace activities.

It can also be delivered for businesses and groups, with workplace delivery available where suitable.

 

Course Details:

Course: Test & Tag Training

Units:

  • UEECD0007 – Apply work health and safety regulations, codes and practices in the workplace

  • UEERL0003 – Conduct in-service safety testing of electrical cord connected equipment and cord assemblies

Delivery: Online with face-to-face training and assessment

Face-to-face minimum duration: 900 minutes

Online with face-to-face minimum duration: 120 minutes

Online pre-course learning: Approximately 10 hours

Training location: Woombye training room or on-site

What Is Testing and Tagging?

Testing and tagging involves visually inspecting portable electrical equipment for damage before electrically testing the equipment with a Portable Appliance Tester.

Once equipment has been tested, a tag is attached to identify the testing information, including the test date, the person who conducted the test and when the next test is due.

The course provides participants with the knowledge and skills required to conduct standard in-service safety inspections and testing of electrical equipment in accordance with AS/NZS 3760.

Practical Assessment:

Participants are required to successfully complete practical and written assessment activities.

Practical assessment includes:

  • Conducting a risk assessment.

  • Confirming safe isolation of an electrical supply and potential hazards.

  • Selecting and checking an appropriate ladder.

  • Performing work at heights.

  • Applying safe manual handling techniques.

  • Demonstrating safe methods of removing an electric shock victim from a live electrical situation.

  • Testing two different electrical cords.

  • Testing three items of cord-connected equipment.

  • Completing required testing documentation and tags.

Theory Assessment:

Participants must complete a written assessment consisting of multiple-choice and short-answer questions.

Students are able to refer to their learner resource material where permitted by the assessment requirements.

Entry Requirements:

Participants must provide official photo identification, such as a driver's licence, passport or student ID.

Participants must also have the visual and physical capability required to complete the practical assessment activities, including equipment inspection, work at heights, manual handling and removing an electric shock victim from a simulated live electrical situation.

Participants must have sufficient language, literacy, numeracy and digital skills to participate in the training and assessment.

Online Learning:

The online pre-course learning and theory assessment is expected to take approximately 10 hours.

This is an estimated timeframe and completion time may vary depending on previous experience and individual learning needs.

Students require access to a computer, smartphone, tablet or other suitable electronic device with internet access.

Basic digital literacy skills are required to access learning resources, complete online activities and undertake assessments.

Certificate

On successful completion of the required training and assessment activities, participants will receive certification for the units included in the course.

The following units are included:

  • UEECD0007 – Apply work health and safety regulations, codes and practices in the workplace

  • UEERL0003 – Conduct in-service safety testing of electrical cord connected equipment and cord assemblies
